Hi everyone,
Just returned from 10 days of diving in Mexico. I took a total of 22 wonderful dives including 4 fresh water Cenotes dives. We landed in Cancun and took a bus down to Akumal which is about 20 miles south of Playa del Carmen. We did 4 oceans dives and 4 Cenotes dives. The Cenotes dives were just awesome and a must if you go to Mexico. ( see youtube - grand cenote -for a video of one of the caverns we dove ). After 4 days we took a ferry to Cozumel for a week of 3 dives a day. We stayed in hotel Cozumel, which is the place to stay and it was outstanding. Just a word to let everyone know the the Roatan mission trip is still on for Feb. 2010. The first week we will done mission work with some opportunity to dive. I am planning to stay a second week at Cocoview resort and just dive. If anyone is interested in either or both weeks please contact me.

If anyone signs up to go to the Flower Garden Banks in the next few weeks I would like to know;
Lone Star Scuba in Fort Worth schedules trips on the MV Spree and MV Fling (or one of the other of those boat trips). It sounds like it would be such a great trip; but I'd like to get some input from someone who has done this trip before I commit.

I currently live in Northern Florida and am trying to relocate to Texas. This is a great site for me because I can get to know people in Texas. I've been diving in Honduras, Grand Cayman, Mexico, and, of course, Florida. Last year, there was a mission trip to Honduras followed (or preceded) by a week of diving there. I couldn't go last year, but hope to this year. Hopefully information on this will be posted here.

Terry and I are Rving full time. At this time we are located in Brownsville till the end of April. I dove South Padre in 95. I just found this information and intend to look into diving here again. I haven't discovered any other operations, but I will see what I can find out.

I am from the DFW area and made 100's of dives in the Texas lakes and quarries. However, I moved to the warm tropical weather of the caribbean in January 2000. I currently live in St. Thomas, VI. Let me know if you have any questions about diving in the Virgin Islands or plan to visit the area. I look forward to staying in touch with christian divers.

As many of you know, I took 19 people on a mission trip to Roatan last June. It was a life changing experience for all who went and lives were changed. We were planning to go back in 2009 , but because of the economy and only 8 months between trips, we are going to wait until Feb. 2010. I will keep everone informed and a date should be set by early summer so we can begin to plan. Bill Barington

I appreciate the opportunity to share information with other divers both in CDOT and elsewhere. We have a small chapter at our church and dive at Athens and Terrell TX. We are looking at diving in the spring at one of these locations and then plan a cruise with diving or a trip to the Texas coast to explore the opportunities . Any suggestions of dive locations are always appreciated. We all work full-time and can dive only occasionally but try to 'get wet' as often as schedules permit.

I live in Angleton (40 min south of Houston). Have been diving at New Zealand, Cozumel, Belize, Florida, South Padre Island and several fresh water lakes in TX. Son got certified 3 years ago and wife 2 years ago. I'm very interested in taking a road trip to South Padre Island for some diving. That's a 6 hour drive for me. I've also done the Flower Gardens from Freeport, TX 116 miles off shore. Great dive but a little costly. Let me know if you are interested in South Padre or just want to get together for BBQ if you live near by. I've yet to try the new dive lake in Lake Jackson (Mammoth Lake).

This is the inauguration of a new feature for CDOT. With this new page/tool, we now have the opportunity to do something we've not been able to do effectively in the past...make contact with each other in an easy and convenient manner. I've always been able to enjoy getting feedback from CDOT members and responding, but it was frustrating that CDOTers couldn't converse with one another. Now we can! So get in here and make contact with other members in your area. Arrange to meet some new dive partners. And above all, share fellowship with one another.
Just remember, we're all brothers and sisters here. There can't be any "flames" (disparaging comments), but I would not expect any from a group whose basis is the teachings of Christ. Only members can post threads and respond, so if you are reading this and are not a member, simply email me to join! (at ChristianDiversofTexas@hotmail.com) I'm excited about this opportunity! I hope to hear from you all soon. I'll be watching this board, so come on in! |
